FootballPlus Singapore started a pilot run in 2012 with its school and football camp programs. Working with players aged 6 – 14 years old, players were involved in various value-based coaching programs using football as a platform to impart positive values into the lives of young footballers in Singapore.
In 2013, the academy program was started where we saw young people participating in weekly football training. At the end of this successful year, FootballPlus Singapore was registered as a not-for-profit football academy in Singapore. We currently work with a team of committed football coaches, parent volunteers, and a leadership board who provide oversight to the program.
VALUES BASED COACHING
In line with the vision of using football to help change lives and build stronger communities. FootballPlus Singapore started its 2014 training program focusing on a 40-week values and technical training curriculum. The values covered this year are: Respect, Encouragement, Commitment, Care, Forgiveness, Meekness, Responsibility, Obedience, Kindness, and Patience.
The program uses the acronym V.I.T.A.L which stands for Values Integrated Through Action-based Learning which provides the paradigm in which we operate the training program. Each player within the V.I.T.A.L Sports framework is challenged to constantly renew their thinking in view of what they are learning through this values education in sport concept.
The V.I.T.A.L paradigm consists of: “Beyond Fear, Beyond Lectures, Beyond Rules”.
- “Beyond Fear” creates an environment where players have no fear of being put down and creates a safe place for players to build towards a high level of trust within the team.
- “Beyond Lectures” ensures there is no boredom as values are imparted through sports. Sports then, become the platform in which players are engaged fully in their learning.
- “Beyond Rules” helps players to take ownership of, and experience positive principles in their lives. This methodology is used instead of the players trying not to break rules that were set out for them. When practiced, it encourages players to discover and experience positive principles in which the team can live by. Over time, this creates an environment that encourages all players to discover their full potential in life.
The technical training side of the program provides the different age groups with focus on “FUNdamentals”, Basic Moves, Techniques, Small-Sided Games, Competitions, and overseas Football Training Tours.
